How far should the sails be able to go?

Hello! I took the boat to Central Park and it was a success..... It didn't sink..... Many people liked watching it....
I had fun racing it against some other boats....... I was challenged by some kids and I felt sorry but...... I couldn't let them win..... I beat them on 3 occasions..... They had trouble sailing.... They had Laser lights and they wanted to crush my boat.... It got hit a couple of times....However, it survived...... Those lasers are big pancakes that can sink smaller boats..... For some reason the kids like to pick on my boat..... It's different and the yellow sails make it stand out.......
I have a question????? How far should the sail be able to go??????
Should it be able to go past from zero to 90 degrees? Zero meaning straight down the middle and then having enough slack so that it can go out 90 degrees.......
I think right now it only goes out about 20 degrees..... So I only use the rudder...... I don't need to bring the sails in....
thanks for any help! I have pictures..... I will try to post....

HI George
Glad everything went well.
Sure , the sails should be able to open until 90 degrees, so you can run downwind. Why doesn´t they do it on your boat? Or don´t you use a second servo for the sails?
If you have trouble to post the pictures, just send them to me at Eric@lhoirf.de, i will post them for you

I have a question.....
When I let my sails out 90 degrees....... I am not able to bring them in back to the center.......(0 degrees) When I use the control to bring the sails in they come in at about 30 degrees....... Is this normal? Okay?
If not..... How can I fix it?
How far should I be able to bring in my sails???? down the center? at an angle close to the center???
Thanks for the Help!!!
I took my boat out again and alot of people like it...... They like the green/yellowish sails.......

Maybe a closer look at
http://www.mm-sailing.de/galerie/index.php...&bild=13&gal=16
turns out to be helpful.
The long black sailing arm should move freely without hitting any obstacles like the rudderservo.
Sailangle between boom and midshipline varies from 90 degrees for downwind courses to about 5-10 degrees sailing upwind, influenced by wind conditions and skipper's preferences.
Your sails should move all this way and this enhances greatly the sailing abilities of your MM. I am sure, we will be able to do the roubleshouting.
What kind of servo do you use? Maybe it's movements are too limited, it should be able to turn at least 80 degrees.
Bye,
Niels

Hi George,
you didn't mention the transmitter you use. Maybe it has a dual-rate setting which limits the maximum travel of your servos?
If the dual rate setting (assuming you have one) is at 100% the servo should be able to travel as the gallery-pictures show.
BTW: Nice to see there is life on the other side of the pond
